Week 6 Palestine protest Cork
Week 6. The 7th protest in a row to stop the genocide in Gaza if you count the one held on a dark, wet Wednesday evening before the first Saturday protest started.
We love to be fair don’t we? As humans. Like oh, is it fair to only support one side, shouldn’t we support both? Well first of all I would say, if you mean having a protest in favour of stopping the war on Gaza, it’s nonsensical to suggest that someone who is in favour of continuing the war would belong at that protest. That would instead be a counter protest, ie. we disagree with your premise.
Now if, as I suspect many conflate both naively and cynically, you expect Jewish representation with your assumption being that Jewish people are excluded from pro-Palestine protests that is absolutely not the case. In fact all over the world not only are Jewish people joining protests for Palestine and a ceasefire in Gaza, but they are leading protests in the U.S. in historic numbers and levels of militancy, to say stop the genocide in Gaza, and ‘not in our name’. Jewish Voice for Peace being just one of those numerous groups demanding a free Palestine.
You will find ‘Jews for Palestine - Ireland‘ on X. They self-describe as “Irish Jews supporting the Palestinian struggle for justice and equality“.
So yes, even in Ireland we have Jewish voices joining the call for Palestinian human rights and for an end to the occupation. It suits certain narratives to portray this as a religious war, it is not. It’s about the theft of people‘s land, murder, cruelty and oppression, all performed by the state of Israel to the state of Palestine which they refuse to recognise.
They even dare refer to a chant which asks for a secular Palestine for all people, all religions, as being a call for genocide. A nasty lie which we will not accept. But when their actual prime minister, the same one that has now murdered over 12,000 Palestinians half of which are children, holds up a map with Gaza and West Bank obliterated and replaced by Israel on September 22nd, is this not a genocidal intent? Of course not. An oversight they will say. The fact that he commits a genocide on Palestine now, as indicated by the UN, a coincidence. After all the war only started on October 7th didn‘t it? Another lie.
